Busy Hands...

It has been a stressful couple of years, and while I take pride in my career, the things I make are never of any practical use once they're done with them on set.

So, to keep my brain from hamster wheeling, and to feel like I've accomplished something, anything, I've been knitting.

and knitting...

and knitting some more. Gives me a chance to sit while NOT looking at computer screens. While I'm doing it, I can listen to free audio books from the library. And end up with some new things to wear, without having to brave the mall.

Love the Owls made out of cables!

But I think my favorite is the one I just finished.

Cozy wool, but knitted loosely so it drapes a bit, and the perfect vintage buttons.
One more reason to love fall weather!

Those are BEAUTIFUL! I can barely tie my shoelaces, so I'm hopeless at knitting. I admire your talent very much.

Thanks!

I look back at the lumpy "scarfs" I made just a couple of years ago, and I still think it's a miracle that I can take a couple of pointy sticks and turn string into actual sweaters that have one arm on each side, and a hole for the neck right at the top... where they belong!

You are so super talented... Wow!!! you knit such sophisticated and beautiful pieces... really lovely work. I am happy if I can knock out a funky little hat or two- you are inspiring me to push ahead with bigger projects.

{blush}

It's really been helping with the stress... all I need to manage at one time is just. one. stitch. And then I'm at the end of a row, and all I have to do is turn around and go back the other way. One stitch at a time.

BTW, Zombie Mom, I love your cupcake hats! And your paintings... I remember seeing a painting you had on your previous site, and thinking "I wish I could do THAT!"

Ahhh thanks... I love these sweaters. They are so beautiful. I find knitting super stress busting though lately the kids have been pulling mine off the needles and that is way, way stressful.

I just love these. I really love the gold one. You have selected gorgeous colors. Do you work in wool or other blends?

I'm knitting mostly wool. I love alpaca, but most of them are too prickly for me. I tend to like like long sleeve full length sweaters, and cotton can get heavy/saggy.

The burgundy shrug is Peruvia Quck (wool). The blue with the ruffles is Elsbeth Lavold Silky Wool (wool and silk - that one is surprisingly prickly on bare arms). The yellow is Lorna's Laces Shepherd Sport (wool). The brown Owls is Cascade Eco Wool. The Red is Cascade 220 Superwash (wool).

The green sweater I made last year is bamboo and wool blend, but it pills like crazy and would have been too expensive if I hadn't bought it on clearance.

Of all the natural fibers, wool seems to be cheaper for the yardage than most of the cottons, linens, bamboos, etc I see here in Los Angeles.

Thanks- I had the same experience with bamboo yarn - I so want it to behave better than it does.
